Computer hardware is the physical part of a computer and a means of physical existence of a computer, without which we can only visualize a computer but cannot see or use it in physical form, then computer hardware is necessary for this.

So let’s know what is hardware or computer hardware?

What is Computer Hardware

Computer Hardware (HW) – Hardware refers to all the physical parts of the computer, from which computers are made, which we can see and touch.

You cannot build computers without hardware, nor can you build computer software. Hardware is necessary for the presence of a computer and software cannot be done without a computer.

The device on which you are reading this article is also a Hardware cmponent.

Examples of computer hardware are Keyboard, Monitor, Mouse, CPU etc.

Computer hardware can be divided into six categories.

Computer hardware Category

The following six categories of computer.

  • Input Devices
  • Output Device
  • Storage Device
  • Processing Device
  • Power Supply
  • Other Internal components

Types of Computer Hardware

The types of computer hardware are given below, as well as a list of hardware.

List of Computer Hardware

  • Keyboard
  • Monitor
  • Mouse
  • RAM (Random Access Memory)
  • ROM (Read-Only Memory)
  • Motherboard
  • Power Supply
  • Video Card
  • Hard Drive (HDD)
  • Solid-State Drive (SSD)
  • Optical Drive (e.g., BD/DVD/CD drive)

Keyboard is a most important input device used to give input to a computer. With its help, you can input text, numbers, charecters and other commonds in the computer.

The keyboard has buttons like a typewriter.

Three types of keyboards are used.

Types of Keyboard

  1. QWERTY Keyboards
  2. AZERTY Keyboards
  3. DVORAK Keyboards

A mouse is an input device used to control and move the cursor on a computer screen. It is a pointing device. With its help, you can point and select and control objects on the computer screen.

A monitor is a display device or screen that shows the processed data or output data to us as text, image or graphics.

A monitor is an output device, but ever since the touch screen has come into existence. Since then, touch screen monitors and display input devices are also used.

So it cannot be completely said that monitor is only Output hardware device. The monitor whose screen is not a touch screen. The same monitor is the output device, both of the other touch screens fall under the category of both Input / output.

Types of monitor

  • CRT Monitor
  • LCD Monitor
  • LED Monitor
  • Plasma Monitor

The motherboard is a circuit board, which divides the power between the hardware device such as RAM, CPU and makes communication.

The motherboard is inside the CPU case, on which RAM, ROM, CPU and other circuits are connected.

The motherboard is called mb, mainboard, mboard, mobo, mobd, backplane board, base board, main circuit board, planar board, system board, or logic board.

Motherboard Components

  • RAM Slot
  • Expansion Slot
  • Capacitor
  • Inductor (Coil)
  • Northbridge
  • USB Port
  • PCI Slot
  • AGP Slot
  • Heat Sink
  • Power Connector
  • CMOS battery

RAM (Random Access Memory)

RAM (random access memory) is the internal memory of a CPU to store data, programs, and program results. It is a read / write memory that stores data until the machine works. The data is erased as soon as the machine is switched off.

It is also known as Main memory, primary memory, or system memory.

Types Of RAM (Types of RAM)

There are two types of RAM

  • Static RAM (SRAM)
  • Dynamic RAM (DRAM)

According to ComputerHope in the development of computers, RAM has various forms. Some more common examples are

ROM (Read-Only Memory)

ROM (read-only memory) This is a memory device or storage device that stores information permanently.

Like random-access memory (RAM), ROM is also the primary memory unit of a computer.

This is called read-only memory because we can only read its program but cannot write to it.

Types of ROM

  1. Masked Read-Only Memory (MROM)
  2. Programmable Read-Only Memory (PROM)
  3. Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory (EPROM)
  4. Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM)
